Inaugurating a Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Laboratory at School of Management and Medical Informatics

The virtual reality and augmented reality laboratory of Tabriz university of Medical Sciences was inaugurated and utilized at School of Management and Medical Informatics on 16 March 2021.
According to the public relations report, Dr. Alireza Mahboub Ahari, esteemed dean of the School, stated that this laboratory has been set up with the aim of creating a center of analysis, development and implementation of educational and clinical simulation systems.He said in this laboratory, new and up-to-date equipment in the field of virtual reality and augmented reality has been purchased and provided to the developers of the virtual reality products.
According to this report, the existing products, including the virtual anatomy, surgical simulator, were tested and used by Professor Mohammd Hosein  Somi    honorable  chancellor  of the university.
 Professor Somi emphasized on producing the products of clinical specialties in the form of 3D modeling while he was appreciating the efforts of the university's IT specialists,
Then, Dr. Peyman Rezaei, esteemed director of the Statistics and IT center of the University and head of the Health Information Technology department, discussed on the capabilities and applications of these technologies, and he described that the space of this field in health, medicine and crisis management is very massive. 
 In the end, Dr. Taha Samad Soltani, esteemed Head of the University Virtual Education Center and Head of the Laboratory, mentioned the possibility of producing educational contents by the faculty members to learning anatomy and surgery, as the first achievement of this laboratory, while expressing the unique features of the virtual reality and augmented reality products in completing educational processes. He expressed: While implementing some of the developed products in the Faculty by the students in the form of technological products and the thesis, the projects such as avatar therapy for schizophrenia patients, augmented reality for computer networking lesson, exercise therapy for FHP patients, management and pain reduction in the form of play and psychotherapy ,and therapeutic interventions for attention deficit disorder in children are  the most prominent topics and developed products by the Faculty.
 In the end he evaluated the possibility of interaction with 6 degrees of freedom, including rotation and movement in promoting a sense of immersion and a close experience to the important reality by concluding some of the features of the available equipment. He invited the colleagues and students to share their ideas and improve their skills in the related fields such as 3D modeling and user space design by studying in their specialist areas and the use of simulators with virtual reality and augmented reality.
